Course Overview
Combining psychology and counselling, this course focuses on the study of human behaviour theory through the lens of diversity, characteristic and cultural context.
On your Foundation Year, you will develop your academic, employability, and digital skills essential for higher education study while being introduced to key concepts in psychology and counselling.
The following year of study, you will develop and embed deeper knowledge of theoretical frameworks of psychology and counselling. This will enable you to make links between theory and practice, the focus on research evidenced based outcomes and professional skills required in the sector.
As you progress to Level 5, you will delve into deeper concepts and approaches through topics including the concept of diversity, human characteristics and cultural context, as well as understanding that everyone, family, community and societal group has a uniqueness that makes it different from others.
In your final year, the focus is on research and independent study, allowing you to demonstrate problem solving within psychology and counselling that can be applied to a wide range of sustainable goals, such as social impact, community-based contributions and long term personal and professional development.
BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling with Foundation Year is offered by Bath Spa University in partnership with GBS. Students can choose from flexible class schedules such as Weekday, Weekend, Evening, allowing them to balance education with other commitments. Undergraduate Entry Requirements for Bath Spa University
Applicants Aged 18+
Applicants should have:
- A Level 3 qualification.
- GCSE English Language Grade 4/C or equivalent.
Applicants Aged 21+
Applicants without a Level 3 qualification may still be considered if they have:
- Relevant work experience.
- Relevant life experience demonstrating their ability to study at undergraduate level.
English Language Requirement
- Applicants without an accepted English language qualification may be required to complete the GBS English Language Test.
English Language Requirements for Bath Spa University
Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of their English language proficiency.
English ability can be demonstrated through one of the following:
Accepted Evidence
- Previous qualifications studied and completed in English.
- GCSE English Language: Minimum Grade C/4 (or equivalent), completed within the last 5 years.
- Other qualifications taught in English, subject to approval by GBS.
Accepted English Tests
English language test results must be valid for 2 years.
CEFR Level B2 or equivalent:
- Undergraduate Programmes: IELTS 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each component.
- Other accepted tests include:
- TOEFL
- Pearson PTE
- GBS Internal English Assessment (details available through GBS Admissions)
Interview Process in Bath Spa University
GBS welcomes walk-in interviews from Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
No appointment is required — simply visit the campus at a convenient time.

The interview consists of two parts:
1. Speaking Interview
During the speaking interview, you may be asked about:
- Why you want to study your chosen course.

- Answer honestly using your own words.
- If you do not understand a question, politely ask the interviewer to repeat or explain it.
2. Written Task
You will complete a 350-word written task during your interview.
