Course summary

We equip our students with a deep understanding of welfare structures and processes within integrated health and social care. Our course offers advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for managing the health and social care sector. It emphasises multi-agency approaches, aligning with current government initiatives.

Students will complete at least one placement, gaining valuable real-world experience. Graduates are prepared for further professional training or postgraduate study, supported by Subject Benchmark Statements in Health Studies, Social Policy, and Social Work, and aligned with the QAA and University assessment strategies.

Explore the social, cultural, and psychological dimensions of somatic illnesses, considering how pain and wellbeing are experienced and interpreted by individuals. Critically examine theories and research on the causes, management, and societal understanding of somatic conditions. Reflect on the implications for health and social care practice, developing analytical and professional skills applicable to your future career.


BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Top Up at The University of Sunderland is eligible for Student Finance England funding: a tuition fee loan of up to £9,535 per year paid directly to the university, plus a maintenance loan of up to £13,762 per year for your living costs.
