Psychology foundation year — common questions

Can I study psychology with a foundation year and no A-levels?

Yes. Many UK universities offer BSc or BA psychology with a built-in foundation year that does not require A-levels or UCAS tariff points. You apply through the same Student Finance England process as any other undergraduate.

Is a psychology foundation year funded by Student Finance England?

Yes. A foundation year followed by an honours degree is usually treated as one funded undergraduate programme. You can apply for a tuition fee loan (paid to the university) and a maintenance loan (paid to you) for each year of study, including the foundation year.

Can mature students get funding for a psychology degree?

Yes. There is no upper age limit for undergraduate student finance in England. Mature students in their 30s, 40s, and 50s use the same eligibility rules and application process as school leavers.
